Late Header From Niclas Fullkrug Secures Point For Hansi Flicks Side

Switzerland hold Germany to draw and top Group A

Late header from Niclas Fullkrug secures point for Hansi Flick's side

Granit Xhaka had given Switzerland the lead in the 64th minute

For the second tournament in a row, Germany left it late to top their group as they came from behind to draw 1-1 with a stubborn Switzerland side in Cologne.

Hansi Flick's side finish top of Group A with seven points, while Switzerland take second place with four points and will now face Spain in the next round.

It was Switzerland, without their suspended captain Xhaka, who took the lead through substitute Haris Seferovic in the 17th minute. The Galatasaray striker opened the scoring after a mazy run from Noah Okafor, who had gotten the better of Antonio Rudiger out wide.

Germany improved after the break and eventually found an equaliser late on through forward Niclas Fullkrug. Kai Havertz whipped in a cross from the left and the Werder Bremen striker headed home from close range.

The 1-1 draw means Germany have now drawn three of their last four matches, but they will be pleased to be top of their group with a knockout tie against the runners-up from Group B to come.
